Making Charleston a Better Place to Live, Work and Play
Last week, WV Forward research scholar, Priscila Santos, joined the City of Charleston to announce the quick action AARP Community Challenge grant she helped secure to support Charleston’s continued efforts to improve livability. The east end will have new destination attractions in place by November 2019 thanks to Priscila’s successful grant, chosen from a pool of 1600 applications nationwide. "WV Forward recognizes that investing in our people and communities helps West Virginia meet our full potential, attract talent, grow businesses and develop a sense of belonging for people of all ages," said Santos. "Thanks to AARP and Mayor Goodwin’s team for the opportunity to help as we move Charleston forward." As Infor, N3 and many other employers are looking to attract and retain talent who want to live in vibrant cities, more companies are also looking to move to West Virginia. Travis Kahle, Director for the Center for Career Development at the University of Charleston, has talked to many employers who have said that they "have a hard time finding reasons not to live in West Virginia." Thanks to the ease of getting in and out of the capital city, low cost of living and temperate weather (i.e. no hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes), there are many great reasons to live, work and play in the Mountain State. |
