NewForce and John Chambers College Center for Career Development Center team up
Last year, WV Forward was pleased to join Generation WV, Mountwest Community and Technical College, the West Virginia Community Technical College System and in-state technology employers at the launch of NewForce. It is exciting to see this new program come to life and begin implementing the WV Forward Blueprint by training talent in one of the highest growth sectors in the state. Here is your fast-forward update on NewForce: Aiming to keep talent local and build West Virginia’s high-tech job force, NewForce is a six-month intensive, tuition-free software development training program in Huntington. "At Generation West Virginia, we're committed to developing programs so more people can stay and succeed in the Mountain State. We don’t think you should have to leave home to find a job you love." - Natalie Roper, Executive Director, Generation WV The first cohort of NewForce students will graduate July 15. The program concludes with a Demo Day, where graduates interview with the program's committed technology Employer Partners who have open positions in software development. In preparation for Demo Day, the soon-to-be graduates received in-person interview coaching from WVU's John Chambers College of Business and Economics' Center for Career Development. WVU offered skills marketing guidance, mock interviews, etiquette training and storytelling exercises. By working together to provide students with the valuable resources to help them secure long-term, in-demand employment in West Virginia, these efforts are moving WV Forward. "It is always a pleasure to give back to the State of West Virginia and its people. Through these initiatives we can not only help individuals prepare for the workforce, but also help drive the technology industry in the state." - Ashley Lesnick, Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development, John Chambers College of Business and Economics. |
