Two Marshall leaders tapped for state positions in fight against drug epidemic
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has created the Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse, Prevention and Treatment, simultaneously naming Brian Gallagher and Bob Hansen, two Marshall University officials, to positions with the initiative.
In making the announcement, the Governor indicated the effort is another step toward combatting the opioid epidemic and ensuring West Virginians across the state have equitable access to addiction care and treatment.
Gallagher, currently chief government affairs officer with Marshall Health and former interim dean of the school of pharmacy, will serve as the council’s chairman advising the state’s Drug Control Policy Office (DCPO.)
Hansen, director of addiction services at Marshall Health and a long-time mental health advocate was also named the director of the state’s DCPO, succeeding interim director Nancy Sullivan.
