Building Partnerships to Advance P-20 Education
Gone are the days where students graduate with one degree and hold the same vocation for 40 years. Individuals now hold an average of 12 jobs during their professional careers. To ensure West Virginia thrives in the future, we must continue to build our future talent pool, beginning as early as pre-K and advancing through undergraduate and graduate degrees. And with today's ever-evolving technology at our fingertips, we never stop learning. That's why it is essential to improve the accessibility and capacity of lifelong learning opportunities and training to prepare students – particularly nontraditional or first-generation students and veterans – for the advanced, high-tech jobs of today and tomorrow. We also recognize the importance of expanding our global reach so students are prepared to be citizens of a global economy. Many West Virginians will tell you that our people are our greatest asset. Our state's vibrancy depends on our ability to give all West Virginians the right educational opportunities to unlock their full potential. As passionate thought leaders consider the tough questions of how we provide the best educational offerings to meet tomorrow's demands, we know we must stand together and align our efforts. By stacking hands and bringing experienced, insightful players to the table to envision our education system’s future, while also partnering on projects and initiatives already underway, we will work toward a more healthy, educated and prepared workforce. |
"West Virginians are strong, but we are much stronger together than we are separately." - Marshall University President and WV Forward Principal Partner, Dr. Jerome Gilbert, at a WV Forward-WV Public Education Collaborative learning exchange. June 6, 2018. https://wvforward.wvu.edu/ |
