Company Anticipates Bringing 100 Technical Jobs to Charleston

Almost Heaven. West Virginia. Those four simple words — penned into song co-written by John Denver, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert in 1971 — have perhaps done more to make the Mountain State of West Virginia internationally recognized and loved than any thing else — other than the Mountain State’s own beauty and its people.

MORGANTOWN — Across West Virginia financial experts agree that a focus on entrepreneurship and small business is the best way forward to a stronger economy.

Just across the Monongahela River from Morgantown sits a small greenhouse with a picturesque view of Woodburn Hall. During the winter months, you might notice its soft pinkish purple glow, but if you weren’t looking for it, you’d probably never notice the unassuming structure. The real surprise though is not that the greenhouse simply exists, but rather that it houses an innovative horticulture operation called Micro Genesis.

People have a hard time placing my accent. In my five years as a Houstonian, I have been told it is endearing, even comforting, but new acquaintances are always left wondering, where is he from? Most end up labeling it Southern, but I have always felt that was too general a term.

This research is a facet of WV Forward and WVU's multi-pronged approach to help those struggling with opioid abuse, and to address the economic, education and cultural challenges of the crisis. These cross-disciplinary efforts are designed to develop and sustain approaches to clinical care, education, training, research, outreach and data collection.

As president of Pierpont Community & Technical College and a member of the WVPEC, President Johnny Moore strongly believes that early access to a college education is and will always be critically important to the social and economic mobility of all students. Dual enrollment, early college models, and college promise scholarships are growing in popularity across the country.
