Moving WV - and the world - forward through groundbreaking advancements in life sciences
Advancing the state's life sciences sector was identified as a "distinct opportunity" in our blueprint to increase West Virginia's presence across the country and on the global stage.
The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is doing just that to move WV Forward. RNI performed the world's first innovative treatment that used an ultrasound to treat a patient with early stage Alzheimer’s.
Led by neurosurgeon Ali Rezai, M.D., the WVU team successfully tested the treatment in collaboration with INSIGHTEC, an Israeli medical technology company.
Though the potential benefits will take time to fully evaluate, these groundbreaking advancements put West Virginia on the map as a global leader in treating the Alzheimers' disease that affects some 5.4 million Americans alone. And this is just the start. Medical researchers, scientists and physicians across West Virginia are committed to advancing life sciences to improve the health and wellbeing of all, in West Virginia and around the world.
